When Anxiety Comes Knocking.

Image
When anxiety and despair come knocking what do you do? (Source) I have never really struggled with anxiety to the extent I'm sure some of you have, but within the last year the Lord has been revealing to me how much I depend on controlling certain areas of my life for my sense of security. With my parents moving to Mexico for missions, raising young children; which is the most faith testing experience I have ever gone/am going through, becoming pregnant after struggling with infertility, this year has been a bit of a hard one. Not that these things are bad, but they were unplanned, unexpected and disrupted what I thought I had going for me, or how I had things planned out in my head. The Lord has been so kind and gentle in reminding me of his promises and his care for me in every situation. I am learning that resting in Jesus no matter how difficult the battle may be whether it is an internal or external one is really the safest place to be. This is a process though...

Beauty in the Desert/Wilderness

I believe anyone who travels the "spiritual path" (being conformed to the image of Christ) will ultimately discover something known as the "wilderness experience." No believer can fully avoid the wilderness experience, it is a path we must travel. It can take the form of depression... A crisis of faith... or one or more dramatic life events, of which the list is endless. It is not a joyful time. It is a time when we feel alone, deserted, and dying of spiritual thirst in the midst of a debilitating spiritual drought. It is comforting to know that all true saints go through the wilderness experience in their life; some more than others. Why, we ask? Our first thought usually is that it is caused by some sin... but sin is not the reason God sends us into the wilderness. King David was no stranger to the wilderness experience (Ps 28:1-2; Ps 38:9-10) and though he sinned like you and me, yet he was "a man after Gods own heart...

Isn’t it wonderful that we can celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ this Christmas season?! ( Original Post )    One homeschool morning a few years ago now, I had just settled down at the table with the days lessons with our son who found it very challenging to sit and put his brain to work on something that was not his idea of being worth thinking about.   We heard a car stop close by and out stepped a couple of nicely dressed people and of course, one had to be walking towards our door. I groaned inwardly and I then told one of our daughters to tell this lady that their mother was not available. It must have been the Holy Spirit opening my eyes to this opportunity and I quickly changed my mind. “Wait, let me get the door”, I said. I put a smile on my face, opened the door, and this is how I greeted this woman who was here to share from her Jehovah’s Witness training: “Isn’t it great to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savi...

Hopeful Foresight

Another year has once again passed us by and a new year begins. I want to encourage you to start the year  with HOPE.  The word hope appears many times in the Bible, and reading about it gives me just that.   Here is one encouraging example: Romans 5:1-5.  " Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. " The dictionary definition of hope is "a feeling of expectation and a desire for a certain thing to happen." What are we hoping for in 2015?  With a new year ahead usually comes high hopes for many things. Often ...
