Happy Valentines Day!

Image
The month of love! The month of romance! To me, romance isn't the same now as it used to be. Being married for 13 years and been blessed with 6 kids (+ 1 in heaven waiting for us), that word has changed meaning. It has matured, if you will. Don't get me wrong, I love flowers, chocolate and candles. HOWEVER, I prefer a nice quiet F riday  night with my husband, sipping our favourite beverage, having a snack, watching a video just the same:) The question addressed to me was "How do you keep your marriage life healthy in your busy season of life?" (Please note that I'm not a pro writer, so please ignore all the mistakes) COMMUNICATION is a VITAL part of a healthy marriage. Find a time alone where the two of you can just talk. As you talk, be nice. Don`t use this time to attack your husband because he forgot to take out the garbage but use it to re-connect. (Don't forget to let your husband talk) My husband and I have set aside F riday  evening, after the...

Hopeful Foresight

Image
Another year has once again passed us by and a new year begins. I want to encourage you to start the year  with HOPE.  The word hope appears many times in the Bible, and reading about it gives me just that.   Here is one encouraging example: Romans 5:1-5.  " Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. " The dictionary definition of hope is "a feeling of expectation and a desire for a certain thing to happen." What are we hoping for in 2015?  With a new year ahead usually comes high hopes for many things. Often ...

Divine Hindsight

25 days till Christmas.... 25 days till Christmas! Are you excited or does the thought put dread into your heart?  What a beautiful time of year and what a glorious reason to celebrate, the birth of our Messiah, our King, our Saviour.  On New Year's Day many people set new goals, evaluate priorities, make New Year's resolutions. I want to submit to you the importance of looking back and evaluate 2014 before we head into 2015. I think we can make wiser and better choices for tomorrow if we look back and remember and evaluate yesterday. With Christmas just around the corner and New Year's 2015 just beyond that, let's take a  moment and reflect on the past 11 months. Who or what inspired you, who or what motivated you? Did you have a purpose, a mission, a goal? We can't just let life happen and expect to reach our goals. You have to be intentional. How was God most glorified in this past year? What are you most grateful for thi...

What to do when kids say, "I'm bored"

How often have you said those words, or heard them said to you? What do we mean when we say," I'm bored ". The 1828 dictionary doesn't have a definition for the word bored in any form.I wonder if in that day that word didn't exist because people had more work to do to sustain themselves. Sometimes we read that on Sundays was just about the only time they had leisure time. Therefore it might have been more appreciated then today. I had to go to a modern dictionary to find the following definition and synonyms of the word boredom.  Synonyms: boring, monotonous, tedious, irksome, tiresome, humdrum These adjectives refer to what is so uninteresting as to cause mental weariness. Boring implies feelings of listlessness and discontent That often describes our personal lives, homes, and our culture in general. Is it because we have so little offered to us, or is it because we have become very discontent? Our children are most often a mirror of us in the home. Have ...

Cooking for 2 Weeks!

Image
"What on earth am I going to make for supper?" I'm pretty sure I'm not the only who has had this thought at 5pm :) I’ll let you in on a little secret, I don’t enjoy cooking. Oh, I’ll do it because it is definitely the healthier choice for myself and my family; and in the long run is less expensive. So, one way I have learned to “cope” with this, thanks to my amazing sister Sherry, is to cook for 2 weeks in one day! It’s a lot of work but so totally worth it! Things like this work different ways for different people. Here are a few things that have worked for us that we have learned along the way! 1. Start with a list .  If you have any sort of OCD this is the way to go. All ingredients listed, color coded, underlined, whatever works for you! Or you may be more free spirited and go with a simple straight forward list like this. Once you have all your ingredients together then its time to get started! 2. Prepare ingredients in bulk w...

Get Organized!

Image
I’m a bit strange. No, really. I’m sure you never would have guessed, had you just looked at me, but I’m here to tell you, it’s true. I enjoy organizing. Give me a huge pile of tangled yarn or a bulging cupboard that continually tries to spit it’s contents all over the counter when opened and I’m happier than a turkey the day after thanksgiving. <heaves a deep sigh of relief> I’m so glad to get that off my chest. Does this mean my house is always perfectly kept? Not even close. But ask me for a light piece of patterned purple cardstock or a new bottle of peach soap and I can run and get it for you.  I would like to make a clear distinction before beginning to share with you some things that have been a help to me in getting organized. Being organized and having a clean house are two very different things. Houses get messy if they are lived in. I’m pretty sure mine gets dirty even when I’m not in it very often. I like to blame the puppy. <...

Blessing the Sick and Widows

Image
I was just a little girl when my mom would call me in from play, tell me to wash my hands and face and change my dress. She had a job for me. Bring a plate to the neighbors. On the plate would be whatever had been baked in moms kitchen on that particular day or a home cooked meal. My mom has always been a person that loves doing for others. Its a gift that she has passed on to us, her daughters. I can't ever remember her telling us to visit the sick, or prepare a meal for someone that needs it. It was simply learned by watching her do it. It was a normal part of our lives to give. We never had much when we were all growing up, but we always had enough to share.        I believe we all ought to be involved in blessing the sick and the widows.  (Galations 6:2. Luke 6:31. Luke 6:38. 1Thesssalonians 5:11. 1 John 3:17) I have a family member that has been really really sick for the past year and she's been in and out of the hospital more t...
