Love

Image
February...........the month when love is celebrated on the 14th. But what is it? Do any of you know the history of Valentines Day?  If not, I would encourage you to look it up.  It is quite interesting to know where it came from, how it started and why we do what we do now because of it.  (Mind you, my husband is anti valentines because he says he doesn't need a man made day to tell him to bring his wife chocolate and flowers..........lol.  I don't mind because I do prefer surprises. :)  Now as I was preparing to write about this topic, I was having a bit of trouble and my thoughts were pretty scattered, but a friend of mine told me to use a spatula, scrape them together and get it done.  So this is what I scraped up ;). The more I studied and read, the more I realized how amazing love is! I also realized my understanding of love has been at best, quite shallow.  This is a poem I wrote in high school, that made me see that I had been questi...

New Year! Right Perspective.

Image
A new year has begun. Who knows if this may be our last one?   "But of that day and hour no one knows , Not even the Angels in heaven, Nor the Son, but only the Father." Mark 13:32-33 "Take heed, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time is." This has become very real to us this past year, yes we have accepted Christ into to our lives but are we really watching like it says in Mark13:33?   We don't know when it will be our turn to meet the Lord, it will most likely come faster then we expect.   I don't know about you but I'm excited to meet the Lord I can't wait to spend eternity with Him and be all done with the trials and tears. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes,  there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.  There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4 We love that verse! It's such an encouragement to me and my...

“To Be Prepared”

Image
Writing lists, setting calendar reminders in my phone, planning things ahead of time...these are just a few things I do to help me prepare and organize my day-to-day tasks. I don’t prefer last-minute planning; it makes me feel stressed. I like to have goals to accomplish and to check them off when I’ve reached them. I like to organize my time and schedule accordingly. I’m a list-maker like I’ve already stated. I like structure and smooth sailing. Don’t throw spontaneity at me. I don’t like having the boat rocked. Don’t you think God knows all this about me? He wouldn’t throw me for a loop hole knowing I would feel stressed and overwhelmed, right? WRONG. November 9, 2016 is a day that all my organizing/preparing was ‘thrown out the window’. Our precious son was born at 2:27pm on November 9 - a whole 5 weeks EARLY according to ultrasound dates, etc. My iPhone calendar was filled with things to do each week BEFORE baby Carter was to arrive. I wanted to get...

Joy!

Image
Joy! It has always been a favourite word of mine. Partly because it’s my middle name and I’ve made a collection over the years of quotes and anything really I can get my hands on that say Joy… including my daughter’s name “Joyanna”. But mostly because when you see and spend time with someone who is joyful it is like a breath of fresh air and you walk away feeling uplifted and encouraged. How does one get this joyfulness? Webster's defines it as “the source or cause of delight” So where does your source of delight ultimately come from? There are little simple gifts that make us smile, a warm cup of coffee on a cold morning, watching your child finally comprehend something you have been teaching them, a hug, a walk, time with a friend, a good book, a beautiful song. There are so many things that bring us satisfaction. But what about when you’re having a crummy day and you’ve warmed up your coffee 3 times already and it’s sitting cold again, nothing goes right, dinner burns, ...
