Back to School!

Image
How my mom dreaded those words. I don't know what all her reasons were but one reason she dreaded those words was because of the list of items she needed to shop for to get us prepared for the first day of school. Backpacks, lunch bags, indoor shoes and outdoor shoes, pencil case, crayons, markers, pencils, pens, pencil sharpener, erasers, glue, ruler, scissors, binders, notebooks, papers, index cards, kleenex box, all this and more ..... X 10. Not to mention new clothes for all of us. Second hand was new to us.  Sometimes mom would reminisce about those days gone by and then she would hold her head  and say, "Ack muech liva nich moll dinken on de dajg", "I'd rather not even think about those  days". But somehow she always managed to survive another, and another and yet another  school year. She never gave us the impression that she could hardly wait for us to go to school  to get us out of her hair. In fact it was just the opposite. She want...

Offences

(Source) “How wonderful it is, how pleasant,  when brothers live together in harmony.”  Psalm 133:1 We cannot control others’ actions, but we can control our own. Most of us have heard the example of the lady who is having a rough day and is snapping at the people around her, but as soon as the phone rings she answers with a sweet tone. I’m sure this has happened to most of us, and it goes to show that we can control our actions and words if we have sufficient motivation. When I hear the word offended, I also hear the word choice. In my mind, to be offended is a choice, whether the offence is great or small, perceived or justified (meaning someone did something to intentionally hurt you). Somehow, most of us, without realizing it, expect more from our spouse, family, friends and church leaders than we expect from ourselves. As Christian women, taking offences seems to be a justifiable sin.   Yes, I just called it a sin, and here’s why. When you take...

Beauty in the Desert/Wilderness

Image
I believe anyone who travels the "spiritual path" (being conformed to the image of Christ) will ultimately discover something known as the "wilderness experience." No believer can fully avoid the wilderness experience, it is a path we must travel. It can take the form of depression... A crisis of faith... or one or more dramatic life events, of which the list is endless. It is not a joyful time. It is a time when we feel alone, deserted, and dying of spiritual thirst in the midst of a debilitating spiritual drought. It is comforting to know that all true saints go through the wilderness experience in their life; some more than others. Why, we ask? Our first thought usually is that it is caused by some sin... but sin is not the reason God sends us into the wilderness. King David was no stranger to the wilderness experience (Ps 28:1-2; Ps 38:9-10) and though he sinned like you and me, yet he was "a man after Gods own heart...

Beauty Through the Lens

I love the "theme verse" for our Lighthouse keepers, “As every man hath received the gift even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10 As I look back to my childhood I see how my passion for Photography was very much evident in so many ways.  As a  young girl it was not uncommon to see me with a camera in my hands snapping pictures.  In Grade 7, I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a photography class getting to know the camera and understand how to use light. Before I got married,  my boyfriend at the time,  made observation of my fascination with photography. So one year for Christmas he got me my very first SLR camera!! I was overjoyed with this big surprise!! Not realizing where it would take me. SOOOO, fast forwarding 16 years later 1 Peter 4:10 has become very real to me.  Photography is a form of Visual Art with many different aspects. You’ve heard the saying, 'A picture paints a thous...

Musings of a Mother

Image
This blog was hard in coming together for me. I just had all kinds of ideas in my head  that just didn't come together right. I've done lots of journaling since I was about 10, but  you just can't be as transparent with the world as you can be with yourself. I will attempt  to share a little bit about what I believe the Lord has been teaching me.  (Source) First of all, I'm someone whose mind can go all over the place in a short amount of  time. I see way too many things I could be doing as a mother and wife with no time to  actually accomplish those things. So I try to do a little bit of many things. And I can't really  excel in any one thing. For me, it's a source of real frustration when I just don't know what  kind of mother I need to be. As I've been seeking for answers, I feel the Lord has been  trying to slow me down and focus on those things which are truly important. My  relationship with the Lord and my husband, t...

Peace From God

(Source) Have you ever prayed for more faith? What if a trail where to come your way, would you still hold on to the  Lord? Would you still rather cry out to God our Father than listen to  people's advise? I wanna write a bit of what we've experienced this  past year, hoping and praying that it will be a blessing to someone  who reads this.  2015 was the most difficult but most blessed year of my life, I have grown so much closer to the Lord, A year ago December  2 - 2014 we found out that I have cancer, just hearing that put fear  into me, I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time plus we had a little  toddler, I couldn't understand why something like that would happen to  me especially at my age I couldn't sleep that night after spending a  long day at the hospital I cried out to the Lord all night until a  thought came to mind and that thought was this: And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him saying,  Lord, if You ...
